Health Services

Health Services

The Health Office is available to students from 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM each school day. During class hours, students must have a pass from their teacher, including passing period and lunch.

Our school nurse, Kendra Ramirez, RCSN Welcome to the CPMA Virtual Health office. Kendra Ramirez has been a nurse at CPMA for the past 4 years with experience in many different nursing fields for 11 years.

If students require any medication, including asthma inhalers, during school hours, they must have a “Physician’s Recommendation for Medication form” and/or “Asthma Action Plan” on file. All oral medications must be kept in the health office. The school nurse will review the physician orders with the student and parent, and then determine if the student may self-carry a rescue inhaler or Epi-Pen.

In order for the school nurse to administer Advil, Motrin, or Tylenol to the student, a current completed “Health Information Exchange Consent” form must be on file. Please note, your student will not be administered any medications if a “Health Information Exchange Consent Form” is not completed or a parent does not give consent on the “Health Information Exchange Consent Form

All requests to excuse a student from PE are to be taken to the Health Office.

A parent may excuse his or her child for up to three consecutive days, at which point a physician’s note is required. At no time should a student EVER call home when sick in lieu of going to the nurse. Students who call parents when ill create problems for nursing who is charged with the medical care of all.

COVID-19 Procedures

Students and staff are asked to self-screen for symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, and fever at home before coming to school or getting on a bus. Anyone with a fever of 100°F or more should not go to a school site. If a student develops a fever while at school, they will be isolated from other students, and a parent/ guardian will be contacted to pick them up. Those experiencing symptoms including a persistent cough, shortness of breath, or runny nose should not attend school. Please notify the school administration of any positive COVID-19 test results. Sick staff and students will be advised to isolate themselves and when to safely return to school according to current CDC guidelines.

Mask Mandate

Student and staff requirements for wearing face masks will be guided by the current public health guidelines and district policy: Currently, face masks are not required for both students and staff.

Student Immunizations (Shots) Requirements

California Health Laws require that all students under age 18 years, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, be immunized against certain diseases unless they are exempt for medical reasons. At the time of registration, the school is required to have proof that your child has received all currently due immunizations.

The district participates in the San Diego Regional Immunization Registry (SDIR), a countywide computer system that keeps track of immunizations (shots). See the Immunizations box for specific requirements. Check with your pediatrician, family physician, or medical clinic to make sure your child is fully immunized. Your child will be excluded from attending school if these requirements are not met.

Information on obtaining a permanent medical exemption for your child is available from [email protected]

7th Grade Varicella and Tdap:

As of July 1, 2019, California Health Laws require that students entering the 7th grade must have two doses of Varicella and a Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap) booster, given after age 7, prior to entering the 7th grade. This school immunization law affects all students in public and private schools. Parents must show their child's Immunization Record as proof of immunization. Students of all grade levels (TK-12) transferring to a new school need to meet all age-appropriate immunization requirements.
