Absence Procedure

Absence Procedure

If for any reason, your child is out of school, please notify the Attendance Office on the day of the absence by calling Ms. Martinez at (858) 800-5550. Press extension 1 to reach the Attendance Office. After 3 days, the absence will be marked as unexcused. Parent notification of absence excuse must be turned into the attendance office, not to teachers.

Attendance / Tardy Policies

Students arriving to school late, except those with an official late bus pass, within the first 30 minutes shall report directly to class. Only students with excuse slips and tardies in excess of 30 minutes will be required to sign in at the front office with the Attendance Clerk. Students will not be admitted to any classroom when arriving 30 or more minutes late to school unless they have a signed planner pass, late bus pass, or tardy slip.

Students who receive 10 or more tardies in any combination of classes will be placed on the LOP list pending Saturday School attendance. Additionally, students who accrue 15-period absences or more will be placed on the LOP list pending Saturday School attendance. Saturday School excuses up to 8 tardies and up to 7-period absences. Attendance calls will go out to parents at 11:00 AM and again at 5:00 PM. For any absence, students who arrive late may be marked absent. It is the responsibility of the student to clear any tardies that have been marked absent due to late arrival.

Out-of-town Trips

Out-of-town trips are highly discouraged as they create a significant interruption to learning for the student.  The break-in continuity and presence in class are only slightly offset through the use of an approved contract.  A contract can be granted in special circumstances.

Parents or guardians must notify the Attendance Office (not the teacher) of any absence longer than three school days. A Contract of Independent Study must be filed at least two weeks in advance of your trip. A contract will only be done if you will be gone 5 days or more. This will give you credit for missed classroom time.   Contracts will only be approved for students with acceptable grades and attendance from an administrator (not a teacher). Any student who is absent for more than three days (other than a doctor-approved illness), will be marked as unexcused.
